I am Ovi Valentino. I started fiddling around in the music business about 6-7 years ago, helping with sound ad stage setup for rock groups. Being roughly 16-17, my strongest influence was in the hip-hop mostly mesmerised by the popularity of hip-hop and rap artists I was seeing on TV. The apprenticeship done before helped as well as I managed to get sound engineering and music production experience, and have produced various hip-hop beats for different artists and done a few gigs myself as a sound engineer. Have been in a couple of bands as a DJ in the past years, but all that was going to change in 2010 when I moved to London. A whole new life in a whole new time meant a whole new opportunity to explore and perhaps develop, but after a few nights Fabric and Ministry of Sound, my interest started shifting towards electronic music. Currently my main genres are tech-house, minimal, deep house and techno. having moved to the South of England, I came in contact with Raymond, the owner of Afro*Disiac LIVE Radio, and after a few projects mainly production, recording and sound editing-wise, I joined the team as a DJ. I currently host my own show every 3rd Thursday of the month, playing mostly what I love most: underground house music called Tech-tonic by “Ovi Valentino”.
As well, I will release my first solo Tech-house EP in mid January 2013 called “The root of evil”.
Music is not my only passion, as I am currently working as a freelance event photographer as well.
I am currently on Soundcloud, Mixcloud, Twitter and Facebook and all links are displayed on the profile page, where I usually post news, mixes and even new tracks,
However, even though I am mainly a house DJ, I managed to gather up a collection of tunes in all genres, thus being able to work any party, regardless of the style imposed, as I feel that being versatile is the way forward. (mostly because, unless you hang out with people that own a big label in the style that you play and promote you, sticking to a single genre will only cause stagnation).
In my opinion, being a DJ is not just about technicality, but also about making people say: thank God we went there last night, regardless of their age group or musical preferences (if someone does not like salsa, they will not go to a salsa club)
Regarding the gear that I use, I am a digital DJ, as I believe it is the way forward. I use Traktor with either a DDJ-Ergo for smaller parties or turntables/CDJs using the Traktor Scratch DVS System, thus being able to play at any venue regardless of the equipment present (except speakers, there must be speakers).
