Charity and Community…
Once again this year, Afro*disiac is proud to be involved with “Grow Your Tenner” .
Localgiving runs Grow Your Tenner each year with the aim of supporting the overall mission to provide funding opportunities and advocacy for local charities and community groups in the UK. They hope to safeguard the sustainability of the local voluntary sector by empowering charitable organisations to connect with supporters, fundraise online and take control of their future.
The key objectives for the Grow Your Tenner campaign are:
• To raise public awareness of the sector and increase the visibility of small local charitable organisations
• To maximise the number of local charities who receive funding and donations online
• To increase the number of supporters donating to and fundraising for local charities
• To encourage supporters to donate regularly through monthly Direct Debit giving
Afro*disiac are about supporting the community and run floats through the processions at the following events:
Christchurch Carnival originated before the war and is still giving pleasure to residents and those from the surrounding areas. This Carnival had been successful for over 100 years now, and is run completely by a willing band of volunteers. This entails months of hard work behind the scenes – but our sole aim is to put on the best weekend possible for Christchurch, whilst trying to give a helpful donation to some of the local charities.
Held on the Winton Rec, the carnival is a family event with a variety of rides for the children as well as stalls, attractions and a stage featuring non-stop live music. New to 2014 was a dance zone!
In addition to the non-stop music main stage a community marquee was added, dedicated to virtually continuous dance and performance.
